Lillian Werbin

In the heart of Lansing, Michigan, Lillian Werbin is the second-generation CEO and Co-Owner of Elderly Instruments, an award-winning fretted and stringed musical instrument retailer. 

As a child, Lillian's curiosity led her through a whirlwind of diverse interests, cultures, and people. After graduating from East Lansing High School in 2008, she ventured to Western Michigan University, where she co-led an all-female a cappella choir. Studying abroad in Bath and London, UK, Lillian earned her Bachelor’s in Public Relations in 2014. She returned to Lansing with a mission—to support her local community and family business, Elderly Instruments.

Joining Elderly Instruments, Lillian co-leads the business with her father. The family business became the canvas for Lillian's exploration into optimizing processes, bringing the established brand into the modern era of ecommerce.
Beyond Elderly Instruments, Lillian advocates for marginalized musicians, manages spreadsheets diligently, and immerses herself in music-focused events. Her passion lies in strengthening the community, using communication and music as bridges to narrow social gaps.

Lillian dives deep into non-profit organizations, both nationally and locally, dedicated to uplifting and protecting her community. She currently chairs Bluegrass Pride and serves on the board of the International Bluegrass Music Association Foundation. Lillian is a Director of Midwest Banjo Camp and Midwest Ukulele Camp and a committee member of the Arnold Schultz Fund, The Rhapsody Project and The Banjo Gathering.

Through Sturdy Roots LLC, she organizes and executes events across the United States, leaving her mark on gatherings like the Fort Worth African American Roots Music Festival (FWAAM), The Banjo Gathering, and Midwest Banjo Camp.
